About Us

Built in 1927 to protect Souq Waqif from thieves, Al Koot Fort is one of Doha’s last remaining military strongholds. Used as both a prison and a base for Qatar’s traditional armed guards, the fort was in use until 1978 when it became a museum. The classic Qatari architecture, its central location, and the fact that it’s walking distance from Souq Waqif make the fort popular amongst tourists, with many visiting after an evening spent soaking up the magical atmosphere and indulging in its fine cuisine. The fort is open until midnight and doesn’t charge an entry fee, therefore making it a must-visit spot the next time you find yourself downtown after dark.
